This place and staff are amazing, knowledgeable, and personable! I enjoy my visits and the exercises/stretches they recommend I do at home until my next session.
Compression Therapy
Washington, D.C. Compression Therapy
Increase blood flow to tired muscles, reduce inflammation, and flush out unwanted toxins with pneumatic compression therapy using recovery boots. Relax as the graduated pressure does its work up and down your legs.
Tell Me More About Compression Therapy
Compression therapy uses controlled pressure to increase blood flow in your legs and improve blood flow to the heart. This helps decrease any pain, soreness, and muscle fatigue you’re feeling. Plus, it improves your range of motion.
How Can Compression Therapy Help Me?
Recovery boots use compression to help improve circulation and have many other benefits, including:
- Decreases your recovery time
- Increases your flexibility
- Enhances lymphatic drainage
- Helps remove lactic acid and other waste products
Plus, it can help you relax and unwind.
What Is the Treatment Like?
The first step is to put the boots on, which is simple—you place each leg inside the recovery boots and zip them up. Then the boots are connected to a device that sets the pressure and duration.
Once you’re ready to begin, we’ll press start and the recovery boots will gradually air up around your legs, starting at the ankles and moving up.
You can relax at that point and let the boots do their work for the next half hour. You can read a book, check your email on your phone, or close your eyes.
Compression Therapy Q&A
Most people find the boots very relaxing, almost like a massage.
Compression therapy is especially helpful after tough training sessions or following high-endurance events. A healthy individual can do the treatment up to 4 to 6 times per week.
If you’ve ever had a blood pressure cuff on your arm, the initial feeling is the same—the compression begins at your ankles and slowly and gradually moves up your legs.
Each person will have their own experience—typically you won’t feel nearly as sore as you were before the treatment. You might also feel lighter on your feet.
